Photo of Inaba ShihanCalgary Aikikai is sad to report the passing of it's founding sensei, Yasuhisa Inaba. A true teacher and dedicated advocate of aikido, Inaba Sensei worked tirelessly to promote the art for over 30 years. He shall be sorely missed on and off the mat where his regular laughter and easy manner were always present.

Yasuhisa Inaba Shihan is a 6th Dan Black Belt and Chief Instructor and owner of of Calgary Aikikai. From a young age, Inaba Sensei has had exposure in the Martial Arts of Jujitsu, Judo, and Shorinji Kempo. He then began studying Aikido at age 21, under the direction of Yasuo Kobayashi Shihan of Kobayashi Dojos in Tokyo, Japan. Inaba Sensei developed a passion for the complexities and challenge of Aikido.

As a practitioner and teacher, he has traveled around the world to seminars and demonstrations in the arts of Aikido and Oriental Medicine. Inaba Sensei runs the Japan Shiatsu Clinic out of the same location as the dojo. He also teaches classes in Oriental Medicine through continuing education programs of the Calgary Board of Education, Edmonton Board of Education, Germany, United States, Mexico and Japan.

As well, Inaba Sensei also trains in Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu, a traditional a comprehensive martial system founded in Japan circa 1387. Currently, there are over 20 students who partake in this koryu at Calgary Aikikai Dojo.
